Through a painful process involving much bungling, we eventually
managed to return most of the group to sanity (or as close to is as they are
normally) through the use of the magical healing pool we discovered
earlier. It was then onwards and
upwards, and we decided to try to really get an idea of how the maze
works. Through some extensive
experimentation, we established that the maze is, in fact, a series of giant
cogs, with rooms revolving into place based on the pulling of the levers. This makes it difficult to map out, but we
have a pretty firm idea of what is going on now.
The general workings of the maze comprehended, we continued our
exploration and soon found another trap.
A room filled with massive, animated tiger heads which were really quite
brutal, but I was, with the help of the group, able to destroy them. I’m constantly amazed by the power of this
wand of mine – magic missile is normally quite a weak spell, but in my hands it
continues to fell opponents with ease.
Shortly after we destroyed the tiger heads, we were approached and
attacked by fox headed woman, another rakshasa.
This woman was a pain. She was
quite impressive in combat, laying about her with huge numbers of attacks,
although they were individually of limited effectiveness. The real problem we had was that she was
almost impossible to hit, and was nearly impervious to our attacks. Eventually, after what seemed like hours of
combat with little or no result, we all stopped for breath and started talking
to the foxy bitch. She suggested that
instead of fighting her we join her and go upstairs to kill the boss, the man
who sent us down here in the first place.
She refused to have anything to do with our rescue, but we eventually
got her to accept leaving us alone as we found those we sought, and then to
join together to take on the boss as an option.
We were unsure of what the entire group really thought about this, and
decided to meet her in the morning to make a formal agreement. We rested and after much discussion decided to
go with the proposed solution, met at the agreed time and place and forged our
alliance.
