Waiting a few hours for the warrior to wake up from the
poison, we also picked up a few scrolls of delay poison and a healing wand, and
saw that, surprise, surprise all of the freed prisoners had fled the
hospital. Despite this, we were
fortunate in that no trouble came to find us while we waited, so we headed back
down for a second go.
We quickly finished off those we’d left alive on our last
visit, except for Fyffe who hadn’t fled the complex, but used magic to do so as
soon as we saw him. I guess our hurrying
down to ensure he hadn’t refreshed all of his daily spell powers was not such a
worthwhile risk after all. We found some
more disease victims as well as more prisoners, these ones in cells, as well as
some people that looked to have been turned into zombies by the disease they
had been infected with and killed by. A
clear indication that we need to get this plague under control quickly, as if
this development hits the streets we are in huge trouble. I’m not sure we could kill all the zombies
created by the plague, and a city filled with them would not be a very
attractive place to live. The prisoners
also told us that there was another senior person in the complex, apparently a
beautiful, cruel woman with a bit of a death fixation. On this news we immediately began ferrying
the prisoners up the lift, but as we started the woman appeared.
She was not too bad looking, although the prisoners had
indicated a true beauty. Personally, I
think they over stated the situation, although maybe it has more to do with my
standards and expectations. I guess I
just expect someone described as a beauty to be at least as good looking as me,
although on reflection that really is a ridiculous standard to hold others up
to, given my own staggeringly attractive appearance. Regardless of her appearance, she was a tough
opponent, with some very effective spells as well as a truly impressive scythe
and the will to really put it to use. She
was able to drop four-arms, the gun nut and the cleric, while the warrior spent
the entire fight worshiping her on hands and knees (when not grovelling flat on
the ground), hopefully due to a spell rather than falling for another inappropriate
woman. Eventually the ugly chick and I
managed to convince the warrior to get off his knees and flee with us, which
was only just accomplished. Maybe the
prisoners had seen this priest woman in action before – while her appearance
wasn’t much on a purely physical measure, but in combat she moved like an angel
of death, or perhaps some kind of demon of slaughter.
After our flight we healed up and again headed back down,
hoping to dispatch the woman before she was able to regaining her most
dangerous spells. We didn’t find the
woman but did recover the bodies of our companions, managing to recover the
cleric and four-arms. Tragically, the
gun nut proved beyond our powers, his spirit apparently having departed for
that gun range in the planes. Seeking
the woman we then stumbled upon yet another hideous monster, this time a
vampire. It seems like this complex is filled
to bursting with dangerous opponents, but fortunately we were able to take it
to the vampire, which unfortunately was able to flee before we were able to
permanently put it down.
The next room we came to contained a bunch of zombies and
some kind of hybrid demon-angel-horse thing in some kind of stasis in a
liquid-filled tank. I’m sick of this
place. It’s full of disease, corpses,
undead and monsters, and not a looker in the bunch. Anyway, the zombies immediately smashed the
tank containing the demon thing, and we were forced to flee the complex, too
depleted to take on yet another dangerous, ugly opponent we withdrew. I guess we’ll have to take on the woman once
she’s recovered all of her spells after all, but at least we’ll be at something
like full strength ourselves.
Nice work, I like the references to Mandraiv's stunning good looks and vanity, hehe
