Mandraiv was conceived when a young noblewoman, the daughter of
Commandant Marcus Thalassinus Endrin, feeling bored with her life, decided on
an exotic tryst with one of Perishial Kalissreavil’s exotic, beautiful,
unfamiliar and above all forbidden entourage.
Unfortunately, she became pregnant and her father’s honour-bound,
traditional beliefs ensured that the pregnancy was kept hidden from society,
and that her child be sent away as soon as it was born, growing up in a
monastery to Iomedae, goddess of valour, rulership, justice and honour, in the
mountains just south of Korvosa.
Struggling with the harsh discipline, not to mention the
questionable honour and valour among his parents that led to his far from just
handing over to a monastery for a poor, disciplined, fun-less childhood, Mandraiv
fled the monastery on the 1st of Neth in his 6th year,
tagging along with a merchant caravan until he arrived in Korvosa. He immediately tried to find his parents, but
was laughed away from access to the areas that might contain people who knew of
him, and soon Mandraiv was starving.
The starving 6 year old proved to be irresistible to Gaedren Lamm,
and Mandraiv soon found himself working running with the brutal boss’s gang of
orphan pickpockets. A couple of years
after entering this life, young Mandraiv found a holy symbol to Nethys after
robbing a priest and felt that the link with his fleeing his original unhappy
life on the first of Nethys’s month was a clear and strong link, and soon found
himself attending services and eventually living in the church, as he
eventually managed to escape Gaedren by fleeing to the church which was happy
to offer him sanctuary.
In the church of Nethys, he was taught the basics of all things
magical, and was fascinated by the Acadamae since first hearing about it. With summoning seeming such a grand magical pursuit,
the young man started studying in earnest, trying desperately to do all he
could to win a place with the greatest summoners of the land. Unfortunately, Mandraiv was not aware that
without patronage, which was not within the capacity of Nethys’s very minor
church in Korvosa to offer, he had an Ice Mephit’s chance in one of the toastier
layers of the Abyss of getting into the prestigious school. Determining then and there that he would show
them all, Mandraiv set out on the path to become an adventuring summoner, figuring
that taking advantage of his natural ability with summoning was the best way to
prove the entire Acadamae wrong.
After a few more years of training with the church, Mandraiv
gathered together his few belongings and set out to become the richest and most
powerful summoner that the city had ever seen, and with a bit of luck find out
who his parents might be along the way.
